Short answer: an Employment Pass or S Pass holder needs a fixed monthly salary of at least S$6,000 to bring a legally married spouse and unmarried children under 21 to Singapore on a Dependant's Pass, and at least S$12,000 to bring parents on a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP). This Dependent Pass calculator checks each family member against the Ministry of Manpower's (MOM) rules for your pass type. MOM spells it Dependant's Pass; most people search for Dependent Pass, and both mean the same pass.
Figures checked 3 Oct 2026 against MOM's Dependant's Pass, Long-Term Visit Pass, S Pass and family pass pages.

Key Takeaways
- S$6,000 a month of your own fixed salary covers a spouse and children on a Dependant's Pass, and a common-law spouse, step-children under 21 and children 21 and above with a disability on an LTVP. Your spouse's income is not added.
- Parents need S$12,000 a month, and they get an LTVP, not a Dependant's Pass.
- S Pass holders can sponsor family on the same S$6,000 rule as EP holders.
- ONE Pass, Personalised Employment Pass and Tech.Pass holders have no published salary threshold for family passes. EntrePass holders qualify through business milestones instead.
- Since 1 May 2021 a Dependant's Pass holder needs their own work pass to work. Spouses of ONE Pass holders are the exception: they can still work on a Letter of Consent.
Who Gets Which Pass
MOM splits family into two groups. Close family gets the Dependant's Pass; everyone else who qualifies gets an LTVP issued by MOM. The salary is your own fixed monthly salary; household income is not used.
| Family member | Pass | EP or S Pass holder needs | ONE Pass, PEP or Tech.Pass holder |
|---|---|---|---|
| Legally married spouse | Dependant's Pass | S$6,000 a month | No salary threshold |
| Unmarried children under 21, incl. legally adopted | Dependant's Pass | S$6,000 a month | No salary threshold |
| Common-law spouse | LTVP | S$6,000 a month | No salary threshold |
| Unmarried step-children under 21 | LTVP | S$6,000 a month | No salary threshold |
| Unmarried children 21 and above with a disability | LTVP | S$6,000 a month | Listed for ONE Pass and Tech.Pass; not listed on MOM's PEP family page |
| Parents | LTVP | S$12,000 a month | No salary threshold |
Conditions on the Sponsor
For EP and S Pass holders, the employer must be an established, Singapore-registered company, and it applies for the family passes. Families of EP holders who came in as overseas intra-corporate transferees under WTO GATS or a free trade agreement cannot get a Dependant's Pass or LTVP unless that agreement specifically covers them. EntrePass holders bring a spouse and children once the business reaches S$100,000 a year in total business spending with 1 local employee, or another listed milestone such as 2 exits, more than S$2 million raised or 2 deep tech IPs. For parents, the bar is S$200,000 in spending and 2 local employees.
Can a Dependant's Pass Holder Work?
Not on the Dependant's Pass alone. From 1 May 2021 MOM removed the Letter of Consent for DP holders, so a DP holder who finds a job needs the employer to apply for an Employment Pass, an S Pass or a DP-Work Permit. Qualifying business owners are the one exception under the old rules.
| Work pass for a DP holder | Salary rule | Quota and levy |
|---|---|---|
| Employment Pass | EP qualifying salary for their age, plus COMPASS | None |
| S Pass | S Pass qualifying salary for their age | Counts against the employer's S Pass quota; S$650 levy |
| DP-Work Permit | No minimum qualifying salary; any nationality | Counts against Work Permit quota at the sector's lowest levy rate |
Spouses of ONE Pass holders keep the older arrangement: a Dependant's Pass holder sponsored by a ONE Pass holder can work on a Letter of Consent. For more on what DP holders can and cannot do, see our guide to Dependant's Pass holders' rights.
How Long a Family Pass Lasts
A Dependant's Pass or MOM LTVP runs for as long as your own pass, or the period you request, whichever is shorter. When you renew your pass, renew theirs too, and if your salary has fallen below the threshold by then, the family passes are at risk.
Worked Examples
- An S Pass holder on S$6,200 a month can bring his wife and two children on Dependant's Passes. He cannot bring his mother, because parents need S$12,000.
- An EP holder on S$11,500 wants her husband, her 8-year-old son and her parents. The husband and son qualify. Her parents do not until her fixed salary reaches S$12,000; a S$2,000 annual bonus does not count.
- An EP holder on S$5,800 with a common-law partner: S$200 short of S$6,000, so neither the LTVP nor any Dependant's Pass is available yet.
- A ONE Pass holder brings his wife, his step-daughter aged 15 and his father. There is no salary test, and his wife can work on a Letter of Consent.
If You Are Just Under S$6,000
Only fixed salary counts: basic pay plus fixed monthly allowances. Bonuses, commission and variable allowances do not. A spouse who qualifies for an Employment Pass or S Pass in their own right can come on that pass instead. If your spouse is a Singapore citizen or PR, the family route runs through ICA instead; see our LTVP eligibility checker.
What Is Changing
MOM's Dependant's Pass and LTVP thresholds of S$6,000 and S$12,000 have no announced change as of 3 Oct 2026; the eligibility pages were last revised in 2024 and the Committee of Supply 2026 factsheet does not mention them. The work passes underneath them are moving, though: the EP qualifying salary rises from S$5,600 to S$6,000 at the lowest age for new applications from 1 January 2027. In practice, most new EP holders will clear S$6,000 automatically from 2027.
Applying
The employer applies through MOM's online services, usually with the main pass or soon after it is issued. Prepare marriage and birth certificates, with official English translations where needed. Our Dependant's Pass application guide lists the documents.
Frequently Asked Questions About the Dependent Pass in Singapore
What is the minimum salary for a Dependent Pass in Singapore?
S$6,000 a month in fixed salary for an Employment Pass or S Pass holder. MOM looks at your own salary only.
Can S Pass holders bring their family?
Yes. MOM applies the same rule to S Pass holders: a fixed monthly salary of at least S$6,000 for a spouse and children, and S$12,000 for parents.
How much do I need to earn to bring my parents?
S$12,000 a month in fixed salary. Parents get a Long-Term Visit Pass, not a Dependant's Pass.
Can my spouse work on a Dependant's Pass?
Not on the DP alone. Since 1 May 2021 the employer must apply for an Employment Pass, S Pass or DP-Work Permit. Spouses of ONE Pass holders are the exception and can work on a Letter of Consent.
Is it Dependent Pass or Dependant's Pass?
MOM's official name is Dependant's Pass. Dependent Pass is the common spelling in searches for the same pass.
Can I bring my common-law partner?
Yes, on a Long-Term Visit Pass rather than a Dependant's Pass, if you earn at least S$6,000 a month on an EP or S Pass. ONE Pass, PEP and Tech.Pass holders face no salary threshold for this.
What happens to my family's passes if I lose my job?
Their passes are tied to yours. A Dependant's Pass or MOM LTVP lasts only as long as the main pass, so if yours is cancelled, theirs end too.
Do intra-corporate transferees get family passes?
Not usually. Families of EP holders who applied as overseas intra-corporate transferees under WTO GATS or an FTA are not eligible for a DP or LTVP, unless the FTA specifically covers them.

Talk to Catalyst Immigration
Family passes are usually straightforward once the salary is clear, but the edge cases (a common-law partner, a step-child, parents on a salary just under S$12,000, a spouse who needs to work) are where applications stall. Catalyst Immigration handles Dependant's Pass and LTVP applications and can check your family's case first. MOM makes the decision; we make sure the application is complete.
